UP north

Our weekend in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan was nothing short of magical. We have several very dear friends there and millions of memories. My love came into his adult hood there at Northern Michigan University and we were lucky enough to live there together one summer in the lovely little town that Marquette is. We make it a point to head up here to our old stomping grounds as much as we can.

The coastline of Lake Superior is absolutely breathtaking. I mean stunning. Everywhere you look there's another little detail, another color, another horizon that looks just like my beloved ocean and draws me into a new sort of horizon I'm beginning to care very deeply for.

There are cliff jumpers, cliff dwellers (those who get cold feet and stand there for hours trying to jump), amazing artists, people sailing, bike riders, and long-haired hippie types. A piece of Utopia in the cool North-woods. My favorite thing is the coniferous trees leading right up to the shoreline full of big sand dunes. Not to mention that crystal clear water that feels like a large freezer was just unplugged and leaked into the ice cold beauty that is called Lake Superior.
